Where's the Oil???

Would you believe that on the worst day of weather in Scotland since we've been here, our oil tank that supplies the heat for this rental house ran out of oil! We are FREEZING! The wall heaters would not come on and that means your oil tank is empty--not a good thing.

On Tuesday night it started to rain-hard- and then we had gale force winds that began about 9pm and lasted till noon yesterday! Gale force winds means that it blew at 71 miles per hour! No one slept the entire night because it was so scary. We had the largest puddles of water everywhere the next morning. Traffic was at a standstill because there were a few trees down and blocking the road. What a mess. I was quickly reminded of how powerful nature can be and just grateful for shelter. The oil man is due to come this morning and petrol costs are at 1pound and 3pence per litre. That is the equivalent of about $2.25 per litre. I think the oil tank which is currently empty holds about 5-600 litres! Calculate the cost of that!! We were supposed to top it up anyway on our departure but we didn't know it would go down so quickly. We spent the night last night sleeping in our coats and robes and hats. No one wanted to get dressed for school because it was so cold. I think it made us all appreciate a few more things.

We loved seeing pictures of Lincoln on the Blog. What a cute little boy. Send some more, and ReNae maybe you could send some more too. We love to look at the new little members of the family. So, for those of you who went to the Jazz and Suns game-who is supposed to win? That sounds like a fun thing to do.

I was also wondering if we need to all contribute something to mom and dad for their mission fund every month. What do yous all think bout that? Mom and dad can not respond to this either. This is only for us kids. Love, Barbara

This is a picture of our Neighbors--just a few of them, that I will miss when we move. These are the Old Sheep of the herd. Look how curly their horns are. I wonder if they can see very well. They are not so friendly though-they run away every time I try to take a picture of them. Alissa and I snuck up on these guys and caught them before they ran.

If you want a close-up view of the sheeps horns, click on the photo. Amazing how they grow in a circle.

Okay, I was wrong. The wind gusts were up to 90 miles per hour! Amazingly strong. --Barbara

Man Melanie, you sure are Beautiful! Sounds way too cold for me Barbara. By the way, we received your wee little gift in the mail yesterday. The I love "mummy" shirt is so cute. Thank you very much. The shoes are adorable too. Can't wait 'til she grows into them.

Oil heat...we used to have that, too. It's nice and really warm but yes, you have to keep the tank full! Glad you aren't cold anymore!!! What a storm, bet you were all glad that was over. Amazing.

So cold, I hate to be cold! But I love to snuggle by the fire. You probably don't have a fireplace in your new place, or do you? OK, I know that by now you have moved, and probably don't even have an internet connection yet. How is it? What did you do for phone service, and will we have it to call you? Did you ever get our package? Such a lame thing that you didn't get it for Christmas, but Oh well. Hook up that computer so we can communicate. We miss you so much. Mom

Melanie- you have grown so much! Your legs really look long- unlike all the rest of us!

I can sympathize with the cold weather. . . I'm sure you all have heard me drone on and on about the horrible ice storms in Mo., so I'll spare you this time. Bruce would recommend being treated for hypothermia. I'll settle for an electric blanket.

Good idea about the mission, too.
