Garden Experience Needed: Please Help!

Rick and I were very excited to do a big garden this year. Rick bought some Jerry Baker video's (if you haven't seen him on PBS you're missing out), we bought all the ingredients for his "potions" and we planted our garden.

This is how it started...

Cute little garden, cute little boy, all was good!

With a little tlc and a lot of "No Lincoln, don't pull the plants, just the weeds", we ended up with this...

Do you see the fear on Lincoln's face? Don't those plants look like they are going to reach out and gobble him up? How come no one told us that zuccini and squash plants get, ginormous!!! Okay, I think ReNae did say, "you should really listen to what they say on the packaging, '6-10 ft. apart'. Sadly Rick had a bit of confusion the day he planted them and it was more like 6-10 inches apart.

So help, now what do we do? Rick said to pull one of them out, but then he escaped to scout camp and left me to figure it out. Where do we start, what should we do? All suggestions welcome! :)

We are getting lots of veggies. Had our first fresh green beans this week, very delish. Thanks to our 15 tomatoe plants we have about 100 tomatoes so far. (My canning equipment is standing by.) I somehow managed to find our first zuccini under all that foliage. I was trying to show it to Lincoln this morning and he is just sure I said "zoo-candy". Now everytime we go outside he runs to the garden, points to the mass of green and says "cani, cani, cani". He's positive there is candy growing in there somewhere.

In all seriousness, suggestions welcome, I want to save as much of the plants as I can, but obviously we are in over our heads...litterally! :)

Oh man, Lincoln is so cute. He is just a little man. Rick and Mickenzie we must get together soon so I can see Lincoln. Hug him for us all. And we need to get together.

Hey Mickenzie! Lincoln is so cute! We can't wait to see him...one day.

I wish I could give you some advise about the garden. I'm not a gardener at all. But I do wish I had those veggies! Sounds nice. I would guess you should transplant at least one of them....hmmmmm.

Good luck!

Sorry -No hope for zuchini w/o thinning. They just take over everything. But, there is zuchini bread, zuchini pie, zuchini casserole which is really good, with cheese and pasta and tomatos and some hamburger. And you can put it into stew too. :)

Seriously, so glad you had success. Use that canning equipment.

Hey, ReNae, where is your comment. Teach Kenzie to make that fake pineapple out of zucccciiinnnni. It is sooooooo good. And, Kenzie, they also double as a foose ball bat!. Or a door stop, or a speed bump for motorcycles. Some people bake up a batch of zuccini bread and freeze little loafs to give away at Christmas time. Que bom né?

Mickenzie, that was so cute! I loved seeing those pictures. I can't believe how Lincoln has grown. What a handsome little "man" he is!

I only remember making dolls out of zucchini. We used to draw a face, put some clothes on it and wrap in a blanket. Kinda dorky, but girls like it. Maybe there are some girls in your neighborhood. Maybe make a family to display on your doorstep. Or not. Sorry, no more ideas-- just a bunch of food that uses the stuff in the recipe, I suppose.

Have fun!
At least yours grew. Our garden is horrible this year! I know it is because when someone offered us their extra zucchini and squash, I TOOK IT!!!
