We braved the crowds on the 4th and decided to take the metro down to the national mall for the fireworks. It's a little dicey getting a big stroller on and off a crowded metro because there's not a lot of room for it, but we made it work. We got there around 5 pm to be sure we'd get reasonably close (we probably could have waited till 8pm, i think), and have a good view of the Washington Monument.
I think the kids got into the camera when I wasn't looking, so this first picture is all blurry due to finger prints all over the lens. I'm sporting my loud "patriotic" shirt in all its glory.
The fireworks didn't last as long as I had hoped, but they were great. Totally worth the hour-long metro rides, and muggy temperatures & bodies inside the train. It took about 45 minutes to get into the metro station after the fireworks due to all the crowds of people trying to take the trains home at the same time.
Here's some clips I shot with my little camera. I like the squiggly ones at the end of this clip.
This next one is part of the grand finale, but the way blogger post-processes and compresses the video after you upload it doesn't do it justice. Oh well. Hope ya'll had a great time on the fourth!

Scott,
That was awesome!! I love watching fireworks and doing it all with family. Thanks for showing us the video. Amazing fireworks! I am glad that you know all about technology so you can do this. Thanks for being so intelligent!
We miss you and your cute family. I wish John and Jake could live down the street from each other. That would be so fun.
