Hawaii was not any fun at all

Nope. Not any fun at all. Just kidding! It was awesome! Ok, so I "had" to go there anyway, for "work". We left Jake and Samuel with Nick and Emily, then Kathy and Cameron joined me after I'd been there for a few days. Our hotel was right on Waikiki beach and it was awesome to be literally a few steps from the beach.

While I worked, she went to Pearl Harbor and relaxed at the pool, and took a bus (public transportation) ride around the whole island (very brave of her!). I finished work Friday night, after which we walked around the Waikiki beach area and strolled through the international market area (total tourist trap, but you gotta do that). On Saturday, we went snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, then hiked Diamond Head, then hiked Manua Falls (that was a long, long day).

Sunday we drove around the East side of the island to the north shore area, and stopped at Paradise Helicopter tours. We took a helicopter tour of the island and it was a blast. I highly recommend it! Cameron cried at first, but then he couldn't resist the calming vibration and hum of the rotors, the rocking back and forth, and eventually he fell asleep. It was so awesome. The pilot pointed out fun things like where treasure island, giligan's island, and Magnum PI were filmed, where lots of movies (jurassic park, 50 first dates, Lost, etc) were filmed, Sacred falls (an amazing waterfall),geologic formations, Dole pineapple plantation, military bases, and lots of other fun things. We went to a couple of touristy places like Matsumoto's Shaved Ice and hung around on the North Shore. We stayed Sunday and Monday night at Kathy's Sister in law's sister's (Laura) house in La'ie right next to BYU Hawaii.

On Monday we went to the Temple visitor's center, walked around BYU Hawaii, and then went to the Polynesian Cultural Center. The PCC was a lot of fun and worth the $, I thought. The night show was great and the comedy had us laughing.

Our plane home didn't leave until late Tuesday afternoon, so we went snorkeling again at Shark's Cove on the north shore, then headed home. Then we had to head back to Laura's house to change and pack and drive back to Honolulu and check in at the airport. Overall, a fun time and we packed in as many things as we could in four days. I'd highly recommend Hawaii if you've not been before!

Rather than upload all the photos again, i'll just point you to where Kathy uploaded several photos: to her family's blog, and to her Facebook profile. You gotta check out the photos. By the way, I'd love to go again, so if any of you ever get the itch and want to go, call us. I think it would be even more fun to go as a group. Love ya! --Scott

Great pictures you vacationers you. Here is a list of some of my favorites:
picture 6 for obvious reasons
picture 7 since it sports Scott's new earring. It's ok to start small and work your way up to some serous gauges since their really just a symbol for eternity which the church teaches, so there ya go!
Picture 12 - but be forewarned not to look at this one until you have your sunglasses on and your computer screen set to dim mode.
Picture 38 - Scott loves Kathy carved on leaf 5 from the bottom left and 6 up.
Picture 55 - that's a serious stack of cakes probably worth of man v. food for eating in 5 minutes or less to get your name on the WanaHakaLugee (I think that's what you said the name of the cafe was) wall of fame.
Picture 58- Props to Kathy but the forethcoming splash will probably keep you out of medal contention.

Funny David! But the photos are fun, and I at my age would not jump off that cliff. Sure glad you got to go and especially the helicopter ride. Way cool. Mom

Ha ha - Hey David, it took some guts for me to take my shirt off and show my "natural" beauty. Course, I'm sure you're all nice and toned and tanned though!

I got a good sunburn on the last day too. Skin peeled off and everything. Those days of dark tans and sun-bleached hair from lifeguarding at the Coolidge city pool are way over for me.

I'm so glad you guys got to go!

Next time convince the company that you really need to bring extra support-- a coupla docs, RNs, computer support, the wildlife doc, engineers (to asses how sound Hawaii is), and of course the hospitality expert.
