On Saturday we drove into DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Back in 1911 (i think) Japan gave a gift of 3,000 flowering cherry trees to the USA. They mostly line the Potomac and the tidal basin near the Jefferson Memorial, but there are some here and there along the national mall. It was fun to see them all in bloom at the same time, and to walk around and see everyone fighting for the best backdrops for their family and engagement photos. The wind was blowing pretty good though so it was really cold and the water was all choppy.
There was a parade on Constitution avenue, so we stuck around for a while to see part of that. After seeing infinity high school bands walking past us, I think the highlight was either seeing Alex Trebek (Jeopardy) who was the Grand Marshall, or the US Marine Corps Band (they get my vote) which was really cool to see. The parade was good, but not as good as the Calvin Coolidge Days parades!
We left early and decided to head back to the fish market on our walk back to the car. It was so interesting to see all the variety of seafood that was for sale and to have all the fishermen trying to reel us in (just like the fish they caught?) at every booth and get us to buy something. Eventually we gave in and bought 5 lbs of king crab legs, took it home and had a feast for dinner. We only ate half of it though, so if you're dying for some crab, come on over tonight and we'll eat the rest!
Check out the mounds and mounds of shrimp!
Read the signs and see what's for sale...
Nick, Zac and Abby were with us and Nick bought a bunch of these shrimp - man they looked soooo good!
There were several guys selling nothing but live blue crab - it was so interesting to see these bins just teeming with moving crab parts... If you ever come visit us, this is definitely one of the places we'll have to take you. --Scott

Great pics. So cool how that second picture is a scatch and sniff. Those cherry blossoms smell absolutely incredible. We just got hit with another 3-4 inches of snow 2 days ago so not much blossomin' goin on in Cedar City yet. When the cadillac drove by did you yell out "Who is Alex Trybek?" or I'll take grand marshalls for a thousand, or something. We miss ya'll and might have to head your direction for some siteseeing or lobbying and take a tour of your office in the pentagon and throw some shrip on the barbee.
I never new that Alex Trebek was a NAZI.
Ha Ha David... "Who is Alex Trabeck". One time when Bruce was in the Ogden Parade someone yelled out, "Hey, there's Dr. Larsen! He's my dentist!" That cracks me up. And here I thought you were the only funny one in the world.
The fish market is incredible. When are you going to make a big mess of squid and octopus? You gotta have a big ol' classic clam bake anyway. We bought some lobster and crab for valentine's & shared with the kids who thought it tasted like fish. "Nothing special." They'll get Mortan's fisherman sticks next time for saying that!
Cool cherry blossoms, too. I was just thinking that those should be coming on real soon, too. You guys look handsome together! Go back and re-create Barbara & David's wedding picture with the Cherry tree blossoms in the background, k?
I've always thought that it would be beautiful to see the cherry trees doing their thing. It had to smell incredible, well....the trees, not that nasty fish-mart. I'm not a fan. I'm with Jacob and Sam, "tastes like fish." Don't give me the Mortan's, if we have to eat that stuff, give me the Western Family.

1st - Where´s Cameron???? did you leave him alone? I was dying to see that kid too.
2nd - so fun to see the rest of you and your outing with the fish varieties and blossoms. They definitely were photos for the senses. Think I´ll print a couple for our wall. Grandma
Funny David - the scratch & sniff.
Hey, I remember getting crabs in D.C. The rum buns at the Flag Ship Restaurante were the best! And the cherry blossomsssss are a great sight. We want to go there with you. The fruto da mar in Brasil usually makes americans sick. That´s because they store them for sale on artificial ice. Karina, that means it looks like ice but really tastes terrible.
Cameron was cranky, had a head cold, and not in the mood to be smiley most of the time. Plus, he was bundled up and usually locked into the stroller so we didn't bother to put him in the photos. We'll post more of him some other time. still have some crab left in the freezer if y'all want to come over. It's way better than store bought "imitation crab meat".
I want some crab!!!!! Love the stuff. Great pics you guys. Looks like some fun. Calvin coolidge days!!! THose were the best. Kathy, your hair looks cute growing out! And, I'll bet that fish market was a sight to see.
Amen to the hair. I love it that length.
Thanks for the hair compliments! Every girl likes to hear that!
