Miles signed up for the St. George runners series this year which means if you complete 2 of 7 schedules races then you can run in the St. George marathon in October. March 14th was the Spectrum 10K which we decided to run together. I gave my first talk as a High Councilman the following Sunday and asked how many knew what a runner's high was? Told them I had no clue yet what that was but that I did know somewhere around mile 5 I couldn't feel my legs anymore, my buttocks had a cramp the size of a subway sandwich and I knew my heart wasn't even in sinus rhythm anymore. I told them I'd never heard the term 'Speakers High' before in the church but that I did know what that felt like and that the two previous youth speakers were now sitting comfortably back in the congregation with their families experiencing just that and I couldn't wait for my turn. The race started in Snow Canyon and ran past Tuachan and ended at the Ivins city park. Spectacular scenery but hard to enjoy it when your running and realized that you should have at least attempted to go Number 2 in the portaloo when they announced the race would start in 10 minutes but were afraid to try for fear you'd get stuck part way and only be able to muster number 1.5 and risk prairie doggin' for 6.2 miles. Probably the reason for the buttock cramp at mile 5 now that I think about it harder. 558 runners participated this year and we were all huddled together like a bunch of sardines at the start blowing in our hands to keep warm wishing the sun would peek over the horizon and begin raising our core temperatures. Sure didn't have to worry about that by the end since I was sweating profusely enough to skip the aid stations where they pass out cups of gatorade and instead just lick my forearm every 30 seconds for some all natural electrolyte replacement I like to call bodyade. JK, like I would actually do that, come on guys, that's just sick. But ya gotta admit it probably is pretty powerful stuff since everyones had the chance to experience that drop of sweat that begins on your forehead and makes it through the front line of the eyebrow and manages to sneek its way into your eyeball and procedes to give you a corneal ulcer as you squint hard enough to touch your cheek and forehead together on that side in an attempt to ease the pain. Miles finished 36 overall with a time of 42:31 and I crossed the finish line @ 46:51 to finish 82nd. Should've stretched a whole lot more afterwards however since the following day was a whole new experience in walking and I couldn't keep my legs from going into spasms as I delivered my remarks.

Good jerb, guys! Running is hard...and painful...an not really that fun until it's OVER.
My advise about post-race recovery is this: find a hot tub and sit in it for as long as possible. ahhhhh...
So you guys are going to run the marathon in October?
Good luck!!! I hate running, but love the feeling afterwards (my whole 20-min. maximum workout, that is!!! I'm impressed with people who endure races).
Hi Kathy, looks like were were on close to the same time. Hey--I was almost first in a comment for a change! Hope you all are doing great in DC! Fun Brazilian neighbors, it sounds like. I'd love to learn something from people like that.
Way to go joggers. What a fun time, all that sweat, leg cramps, can't decide if you should lay down and not get up or what. Miles, you shouldn't set that standard so high. Let's see, 4 min.difference and 43 people. David, looks to me like you lost your kick? But, raising you hands after you finished is the runners high. Congrats to you both.
I couldn't be more proud.
(Miles, get out the tan-in-a-can.)
Man, the newcomer to the blog is taking over!
J/K david - i love you and your posts! I do believe however that the correct term is "hedge-hogging", but that's nearly the same as a prairie dog, so tomato, tommatto.

geez miles. you really should invest in a longer pair of shorts. nice job though!
Hey, that prairie dog stuff is NOT COOL!!!!! I had to do it once or twice (ok, 3 times! GEEZ) in Guatemala with my last companion. She was a runner and I agreed to get up with her early to do it. Hard on the bowels at first. You'll be happy to know that I never have anymore problems.
Way to go on the ol 10k. I kind of want to do it. Kind of. That is so funny, we must have been at the same park that day! Rick and I went to the temple and Jared baxter was babysitting for us there while we went. It was in the early morning and we did see a bunch of commotion. Funny it would have been to run into you there. Congrats!
Dang miles, I think all those years you enjoyed with a full head of hair are long gone. Looks like the hair line is already re-seading...Oh well, i guess the apple didn't fall far. We're all gonna have to get together for the x-terra triathalon in Ogden...stay tuned, more details to follow.

ReNae,
I know that stuff all over the lawn isn't ONLY from Mac and Trooper...
It's okay if you still have a slight problem.
Just kidding, you're my best sister, lots of love, TLA, BFF, Stay sweet.
David and Miles I am so proud of you! I wish I was there to cheer you on. Let me know about the next race, I would love to be there. Krissy
