Here's a picture that ya'all are invited to submit a caption for. We'll let miles judge them and see which one(s) he likes the best and then he can send the winner a sweet prize. Miles applied to Utah State University specifically for the ambasador scholarship which is a 4 yr. tuition and fees award in addition to becoming one of the 20 ambasadors they select to help recruit incoming freshman. They have the opportunity to travel around the state visiting high schools and delivering presentations and talking to interested students about the programs Utah State offers. Thankfully Miles didn't even consider applying to the University of Utah or else he would have lost any potential birthright and any eternal recognition of ever being related to this family. He put together the required portfolio and then was invited to travel to Logan for an interview and had to give a 5-6 minute presentation acting as if he were a recruiter and the panel was acting as potential incoming freshman. They were not allowed to use any audio/visual aides but were told to be creative. Miles wrote a rap and he had 2 of the interviewers come up and rap 2 of the stanzas with him wearing bandanas which he let them keep and at the end gave them all some fortune cookies from which he had previously removed the generic fortunes and typed up his own. Anyhoo, 2 previous ambassadors who had already graduated from Utah State were heading to St. George and decided to hand deliver the scholarship to Miles. They called Ruth on her cell phone and asked if they could come by around 11 pm on a Friday night and surprise him. Ruth called Miles who was out with some of his friends and told him that he had to come home. When he got here Ruth took him in the back bedroom and said: "Miles, is there anything that you've done that we don't know about?" "No mom!" said Miles and then Ruth told him that a police officer called and wanted to meet with the 3 of us. Miles couldn't think of what it could possibly be related to and then said to Ruth, "Lets kneel down and pray" which they did with Miles praying and saying "Heavenly Father, please help us get through this tonight for whatever I have done or haven't done and help it to turn out ok." Ruth was dying inside and biting her lip hard to keep from laughing in the midst of his heavenly plea. She had to get Miles out of the bedroom before she lost it and told him to go talk to me just as there was a knock on the door and Erin answered and called Miles to the door. Miles didn't want to come to the door and was in the hallway going over his rights and telling us that if the officer didn't have a warrant he didn't want to talk to him. Miles finally came to the door and saw some guy holding an envelope and an Aggie t-shirt with his wife standing behind him filming the event. It completely took Miles by surprise and after a couple of seconds figured out what was going on he dropped to his knees and kept repeating "are you kidding me" just like Kevin says it on the office.
P.S. For an awesome family night talk for the adults and older kids ya have to go to the following link and watch or listen to Elders Hollands talk entitled "Remember Lots Wife" which he gave 1/13/09 at BYU. I know Brooke was there in person and got to experience it first hand. It's faster if you click on the download video instead of the watch now screen that first appears. http://byubnew.byu.edu/talks/Talk.aspx?id=3403
