What we've been doing, part I

Here are some pictures of our trip to the beach last week.

We walked up to this pier and saw

this tub-a-lard frolicking in the water.

Nathan was impressed, but only momentarily. And he was miffed that I didn't have anymore raisins in my purse ("One box is more than enough").

So we played all day on Laguna Beach and collected TWO huge buckets of pristine sea shells. It took us forever to find those precious shells! All sorts of usual and unusual shells. We had grand plans to fill a glass lamp base with our beach treasure until we spotted a sign that prohibits the collecting of shells.

Drat.

It was a good teaching moment, though. "We believe in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law".

And the boys were horrified with the realization that we had been removing the abodes of the sea creatures. So then they were happy to leave the shells for the poor homeless critters.

Nathan hated the waves splashing up on him, but loved the little tide pools everywhere. He never went more than two feet away from me, for fear that those waves would consume him.

Man, this is so relaxing!

Bruce is giving Caleb an exfoliating cinnamon-sugar-sand scrub. And

when he's done I tell him that he looks like a snickerdoodle man. Yum!

They all think Dad is great for buying icecream cones, but do you see that disgusted expresion on Bruce? It is there because I didn't know those cones were almost 6 bucks each. I just walked in & had the kids order. We could've bought like 50 gallons of icecream! (But so dee-lish!)

I wanted to do a family picture, but do you know what? Nathan had a major #1 accident (after I had just taken him- are you diabetic now Nathan?!) down his shorts. Fine, I'll pick him up so no one can see - but alas, even my focus was way off. So I use this picture to represent that childhood goes so fast, it is just a blur...

But Kara is still up for a few shots.

I do love this boy! Those squishy arms and legs and cheeks! (He's very well taken care of, ReNae.)

( This is the Easter dress I made for Kara.)

The end.

a) you made the snickerdoodle reference for me, right?

b) did the white dresses get trashed on the beach after the pics?

a.) Of course I did. But he really DID loook like a snickerdoodleman.

b.) No, although It was sick to hold Nathan knowing what he had just done. And he went into hysterics after he realized what happened, so the whole mission was aborted.

It was all very good. Now I''ll read about part II. The end. I shouldn't even be here right now. I should be helping Jayson get the garbage/recycle out for tomorrow's pick-up so he can get going on his homework. Jay is out of town, Jayson had football practice after school and then an orchestra concert, which the rest of us attended (very good, by the way) and we got home, put the young uns to bed and I didn't want to tackle dishes just yet. Now you have tonight's story. I'll still read on, tho.......

Well, as usual Nathan is acting like Nathan, and he's so darn cute. I loved the beach pictures, and I showed them to Sonia in our office, she is jealous - she has been married a long time and hasn't been successful with having children.
My favorite one is probably the looking for shells photo, and then the ice cream. And Kara, what a cute dress and a pretty girl.
