How much did you say?

Spencer decided today that he would try and earn some money with his bagpipes so after school Barbara took him into Stirling where he found a location he thought would work for his musical talents, got his bagpipes going and away he went.

He played for about an hour and had a real favorable response (i.e. lots of people coming by and throwing in money)!

In fact, people were coming up to him and getting their pictures taken next to him and standing around simply enjoying his music.

At the end of his hour of playing he packed up, came home with Barbara, and counted his loot. Can you guess how much he earned? Well, he earned £49.78! That’s almost $100/hour!!! We think Spencer has found a new money making machine!

That is AWESOME Spencer! Sure beats mowing lawns, bagging groceries, chopping cotton with the Hansens (no offense meant to any of you Hansens that may see this comment), lifeguarding, babysitting, or anything else I ever did as a kid to earn money.

Way to go. Keep up the entreprenuerial spirit and you could earn the entire cost of a mission in less than a year! ($12,000US Cost of a mission in today's dollars, divided by $100 per hour = 120 hours, or about 40 days of working 3 hours per day...There's 52 Saturdays in a year, so it would seem you could earn the entire cost, plus Tithing and taxes, before your next birthday. Maybe you'd better stay in Scotland a while longer?)

One smart way to earn money Spencer. Maybe you could work another Saturday like Scott said, then you'd have about 300.00 for a little yellow labrador puppy. Man, why didn't I take pipe lessons. Grandma

I'm 100% offended by that comment Scott.

Spencer:

Way to go! Will you give us a concert when you get back? I'd be glad to throw money in your hat. Are you considering leaving school to "go pro" with your bagpipes?

Spencer, was that your idea? Pretty smart!

So, which songs did you play? My Country 'Tis of thee/God save the King? See, you could meld the two nations together with one song.

And don't listen to Scott. You must not stay another year.

Also, I'm glad they didn't put food or Haggis in your case instead of money. Maybe bring a bigger case next time(you might get even more money).

Did Janalee ever do cotton-choppin'? You boys told me that was a "NGA" situation out there.

Can you say Cha-ching! Way to go Spencer. We are super impressed! You may even make more money in America because most people haven't even seen bag-pipes let alone heard an amazing musician play them! Can't wait to hear a concert myself!

Hi Janalee, I don't remember you being out there, only Aaron, Taylor, and Spencer, and sometimes the Gibson brothers. I do remember it was hot, dirty work, and that we spent more time playing and goofing off with each other than actually working, which is probably why Don laid us all off (the illegal alien crews put us to shame)...but that's ok, because he was only paying us a nickel an hour.

This is Spencer:
I was really frightened at first to start playing but then when I started thinking about the positive stuff I began to play. I played again last Thursday for about 2 hours and this time I was able to earn over £107!!! I’m not going to give up school, but maybe I can work my way through college using the bagpipes. This week (July 10th and 12th) I’ll be playing again in Stirling and hope to earn a lot!

Yo kembles - ask Spencer if he thought it was child labor - no way, Jose'! That's called being self sufficient. Way to go Spencer! (PS, That would totally frighten me, to play in front of people on the street. you are very brave, bro!

Wow, your story keeps getting better and better! Self-sufficiency rules!
