I've taken a couple of trips lately for work, which is a bummer, because I really hate to be away from the family. In January I went to Georgia, then last week to Camp Pendleton (Marine base in Oceanside, CA). Currently I'm in San Antonio at a training course. Jacob hates it when i'm gone (Kathy... not so much...) and keeps asking why I have to work "out of town", and how come I can't come home now, etc.
He sent me two emails this week (I think Kathy typed them for him) while i've been away, and I just thought I'd post them because they are so cute and so "four-year-old-ish".

Dear Daddy,
Today I missed you so much that I cried. But Mommy said I would get three scoops of ice cream if I don't cry about Daddy coming home. And I haven't cried yet!
And then we went to Costco and we had pizza, too. I loved the pizza. I had soda too. I played with Sam and I was a little bit mean to him at Costco.
I'm 4 years old. I drawed a picture for you and you'll love the pictures that I made for you.
I miss you, Dad. I love you!
love, Jacob

Subject: Another letter from Jake
Dear Daddy,
I had fun playing with Sam and I was watching cartoons. And I'm 4 years old. And I drawed pictures for you that are not the same. And I miss you and I love you.
I buttoned my shirt by myself but Mom didn't help me.
And I love Transformers and you do too.
love, Jacob

Scott, that was a great thing to put on the Blog. Children are so fun and I loved reading his cute little letters to you. I can't believe he is 4 years old now. He reminded me of a time Amber was 3 and she called David at work and left this panicked message on his machine "Daddy this is Amber, please call me back, please, please, please. " So he did and everything was okay. Funny how they have no patience. You are a great dad, and Kathy is doing a great job in your absence.
Love, Barbara
I like how Jake keeps saying that he is four years old. Why do you think he would say that, Scott? Do you go around and say "I am thirty three years old"?
Cute letters! There's nothing better than to hear it from a toddlers (or a BIG boy - in Jake's case) mouth. Those letters are a prized possession. I have kept so many and don't regret it. It will be a fun tool to use when they are older.
What would we do without our kids? Life is so meaningful when there are children around. I love just about everything about them. I loved reading Jacob's letters because I know that's exactly how he feels. You better buy him a transformer next time your are away! (and don't forget Sam....and Kathy!)
