Further proof of inadequate parenting skills

So, you all know how Bruce & I went to Pine Valley 2 weeks ago- and Mickenzie so bravely decided to ride in our car with 5 kids (Joseph came too)-- both ways? If you ask Kenzie how Nathan did on the way home (it took us almost 8 hours after making all the stops along the way), she'd probably say "fine" but really she'd be thinking, "Man, that is the most anxious, high-strung, hard to please toddler I've ever seen! What kid doesn't sleep in a car?"

Well, I HAVE A REASON!!! Eric this morning opened my little icebreakers mints and put one in his mouth. Then he looked at the package and ran to the garbage and spit out the mint.

"Mom, do you know those mints have caffeine in them?"

"Huh?"

(Repeat question)

And then I flashed back two weeks ago as I read for myself and wept.

"contains caffeine. 3mints=1/2 cup of coffee. " (Who seriously reads the words on a MINT box before eating one??)

"Here Kara, give some of these to Nathan until we get driving." She returned the mint tin back to me with it only half- empty.

Bruce & I figured that Nathan had the equivalent of 2 cups of coffee before being strapped into a car seat for 8 hours.

So Mickenzie, that explains the bulging, wide eyes and the psychomotor aggitation.

Gee whiz, I think you better change your email address from 'doctorandnurse1' to 'hereletuskillyourkidsforyou'

Oh, sure, blame your kids' behavior on the "caffeine"...

Ha ha - hey that is so funny and too bad. Boy, that would be the road trip from heck.

So....pretty bad, huh? That's torture to place a kid in a car seat for that long when they need to burn off all that energy! I guess you sang a lot of songs and played a lot of entertaining games and nobody wanted to sit by poor little Nathan! Send him to us, we'll love him. You guys are so funny, always something going on that amuses us.

Yah I agree with ReNae... You'd better change that email quick! ha ha I personally don't think it was the mints, unless Kara was giving nathan those the WHOLE time during the pine valley stay... It seemed to me that nathan was the same way you described each day! But he is way cute, and so I'll forgive him!

Hahahahaha ReNae!!I'll get right on that! I was thinking I'll join caffieneforkids.com

Yes, Scotty I do blame the caffiene. Only because Nathan was "stellar" on the ride to Pine Valley.

Jana- yes, I was all out of stupid human tricks to do to make Nathan laugh. He doesn't laugh at "borahole" either. (ReNae's favorite baby game)

Karina- you tryin' to spoil little tots' perfect image? You know what a perfect, calm, easy disposition he has. . . why, he is every bit as calm as Robin Williams!

Well, medicating kids all began with David. Mom and I borrowed Grandpa Brooks' VW and were a little concerned about driving from Utah to Detroit. So, the Dr. ( I think his name was Rebecca something or other) told us that we should give him some benadryl. We did, and remember, this was before car seats., He was bouncing around the VW for the entire trip. Worst experience of our lives.

When Child Protection Agency calls, give them our number if you need a reference.

I honestly didn't think Nathan was too bad, as long as he had a sucker in his mouth (or in Becky's hair) he was quite calm. The caffeine definately explains the lack of sleep though. I just kept thinking, "man I am so tired, how can these kids not be exhausted". I guess I am pregnant, but I also wasn't high on caffiene! :)
This definitely explains why I loved icebreaker mints in college though, I could go through a whole package in one night of studying, who knew?
