Las Palabras del Missionario

Week 5 letters---

My companion is lying in bed right now from a bad migraine he’s had for a couple of hours. I feel bad for what he’s been through and what he’s sacrificing. Elder Wennerholm used to be a hardcore druggie. He was addicted to cocaine, pot and prescription drugs including ecstasy; He’s seen it all. He takes drugs now to help with withdrawal effects. However, the drugs he takes now make it harder for him to concentrate and stay on task. Since he wants to concentrate and work hard, I think he’s taking less of his recovery medication which results in terrible headaches and causes him to feel sick. If ya’ll could keep him in your prayers and remember him on fast Sunday I think it would be a big help. He’s been through a lot and has a desire to be here. I want him to work hard but I also want his mind to be clear. Thanks for your letters and updating me on the fam. Just some things that would be useful if you could send them are Magnesium – the food here does wonders to your digestive system. Maybe some more socks – I have to smell the socks I have already worn to see which ones are cleanest and wet gym socks tend to collect mold. Here is some spiritual stuff since school is starting for Allyson, Dallin, Erin and Ronnie. Dad, you’re in the bishopric and will be conducting next month and mom, you have to balance EVERYTHING! Sometimes we can get a little prideful with ourselves. We think some of our problems are too insignificant for help. (read Matthew 11:28-30). Of course you should do your best in all things, but don’t forget to include the Lord. When we include the Lord, our burdens become lighter and we become closer to God. I love ya’ll so much! Every letter you send motivates me to work to the point of exhaustion. P.S. I’m working on my penmanship. I just don’t have much time to focus on it but the Lord will bless me for doing my best. Well here it goes. What a great and exciting week. It started with a big rain storm right before we had gym. We headed out to the field which turned out to be a giant mud pit. So we started playing and every one of us came back caked in brown. Best soccer day! however my garments and shirt are forever stained brown, Ha. Our entire district was getting sick one by one. I wasn't sick yet but kinda worried i would be. i just told everyone i have an awesome immune system and there is no way im getting sick, plus i have 20/13 vision (i always throw that in when certain elders in the district start to brag about this and that Ha). Well i eventually got sick:( no fun. From a sore throat to a throbbing headache, the MTC is a breeding ground for illness. Well ill get to the best news. Last night we had our usual Tuesday night fireside. The gym (which has been under construction) was finally done. Elders were going over an hour early to wait in line. I thought, "What a waste. 95% of those elders are going to waste all that time they could be studying." Sure they'll say to themselves that they'll study there, but that’s hardly the case. My companion and i decided to wait and study more before going to the line where we reviewed vocab. The doors opened and we were drawn inside. We snagged to seats on the floor pretty close. When there was about 12 minutes left, they announced there were extra seats where the senior couples hadn't completely filled. My companion and i snagged two of them. How great and what a blessing, we decided to study more and got the best seats in the house, GO GOSPEL! So the anticipation grew especially as we started to sing We'll Bring the World His Truth. About halfway through the song..... Elder Jeffery R. Holland walked into the room. We all stood as missionaries tried to hold in their excitement. He opened with, "We expect you to be grown up!" Ha, only Elder Holland can get the point across that he loves you and tear down missionaries the way he does. I love it. He had so many wonderful quotes like, "It’s not a dress rehearsal," "This isn't Burger King, We don't hold the pickles," (in reference to missionaries not teaching from preach my gospel). Ill send you my notes from the talk. So good, really. He ended with the powerful words of, "The road to salvation, always goes through Gethsemane." What a blessing to have him come. I love this gospel and how it makes me feel. We are doing the most important work in the world! Literally, no exaggeration, and what a humbling thought. Thanks so much for the cinnamon rolls, we had the district in our room for them. please send back the camera cards. i love you all so much

That was so awesome! We all loved reading his letters. Thanks for posting them. It makes me miss the MTC so much. What a great missionary Miles is. It is a great tribute to you David and Ruth. We will remember him in our prayers. It is so fun to have all those mission memories come back. He has good advice for us all. So everyone, write in your journals!!

Hey, thanks a bunch for posting this. We are always so renewed reading missionary letters. He is in for the greatest experiences. So glad he loves Elder Holland. Who Doesn't? Love you Miles, and you are always in our prayers. Grandma and Grandpa
PS - Moldy socks? Try going to Brazil where the humidity molds your closet walls too.
