This is so last year. . .

I feel like I am so behind in everything, but I've slaved all morning getting the house ready for the big arrival this evening (the Baxters are coming!!) so I deserve a break to blog for a minute. Phew, if she even knew all the preparations that are taking place to prepare for their arrival... just kidding, dear-y.

Anyway, back to the subject, Christmas morning. This is what it looked like in our back yard at 6 a.m. No sign of Rudolph or his entourage, but the air was so magical. Such cool colors. Eric was up at 3:30, unable to rest a minute more. Luckily, his mother predicted this horrid Christmas behavior and equipped him with a phone with which to contact us for permission to come upstairs. (which he utilized, frequently, with the most ridiculous of questions.)
The line-up, complete with Nathan's inability to hold. still. for. just. a . second. Oh, and I don't know why Jared wasn't in the picture, but do you know the torment he caused the poor little darlings before starting the morning? Here's an incomplete sampling for your outrage:
"Caleb, I can't wait to see the pink bunny suit on you that Aunt ReNae made. She thinks you are not only still four years old, but a girl as well."
"Come here and let's have a long lesson before we get started."
"All the toys out there are pink- you guys- I think Santa forgot that boys live here!"
"You guys, we have to wait another hour and 50 minutes, because it was daylight savings last night."

I cracked up as I took this picture. Caleb got a gecko from Santa, but he didn't see the gecko in the cage at first. "Caleb! Look at what Santa brought you!"
"I know mom. It's a reptile habitat." (couldn't he just say "aquarium"?)
"Yeah, but look at what's IN the ...reptile habitat," to coin his phrase.
and then, "ERIC! LOOK AT THIS CHECK THIS OUT I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT A GECKO MOM LOOK ITS ALIVE AND REAL."

Warning: Mickenzie don't look. Reptile ahead.

This is what the little fella looks like. Want to know his name? I mean, it is so perfectly named, to an eight year old cub scout.

(It's Ninja, in case you couldn't think of it.)
Jared tried and tried to get him to name him Gordon B. Gecko or Thomas S. Hinkley or Lily or some other horrid 6-named conglomerate, but Caleb would have none of that. So Ninja it is.

Santa brought a doll bed & outfit for Kara's dolly, but not the bedding. How inconsiderate, it forced me to sew until the wee hours a pillow, mattress, and quilt.

And then everyone was starving, because it was 8:30 and "I think the latest we've ever eaten breakfast before is 7:00, it's just not right, mom".... and still I made them hold off for awhile. Because I KNEW hey had already snitched from their stockings sweet sugar plums which had danced in their heads only hours before. Santa should put wholesome food in stockings.

Now, children, I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it to wait for breakfast. And it was.

And look how forgiving they all are to Jared, and I don't think all the presents he gave them had anything to do with it either. Oh, and also I told the kids that someday Jared will have kids and they can repay him for all the teasing in kind...

So, hopefully Jared & Rick & Mick get back safely from Colorado & that it wasn't a repeat of the last time they all went - everyone got really sick or really injured.

Caleb, I think Nilsa is a wonderful name for your glekko. But you sure do have large hands. Oris it just that the reptile is so small? What do you feed her? Chips?, dried ants? Roaches? None of your uncles ever had one because the snakes ate them in Arizona. Do you think you can find it if it gets out? Did you ever catch your snake that got out in the basement? Do snakes like Gleckos?

Great photos, Becky! I love the breakfast. Why didn't you send US any?! Ya'know, cuz you're not busy or anything. :)

I think I should be looking forward to reptiles and that kind of thing, too. Although this week we went to the US botanic gardens and saw a electric train exhibit and also walked through like 5 minutes of one of the galleries of art and Jake said that his favorite part of the day was looking at paintings....hmmm...where did that come from? :)

Goodness Becky - breakfast could vie for the blue ribbon of Christmas mornings. You are just the little Mrs. of Organization, what with sewing all night, and having company, and hosting more company, all while feeling green. etc.
And - that Geiko is really cool, Caleb. Reptiles! Another chip off the block, I´d say. Mom

Yeah, and what's in the drinks? I figured out the breakfast casserole, but not the drink. Looks great, tho!
