Well, Alex and I are finally the same age! Now I don't feel so old! ha ha. So, Alex wanted to go to Pine Valley and celebrate his birthday. (Really he was looking forward to JUST drinking Mate and TRYING to win back his pride at poker... which he lost again to Muah!). We had a blast with Rick and ReNae and Alex sure enjoyed his cake and gifts.
I was going to make a brain cake, since one of his classes at Dixie includes Cadaver practicum. Which means, he dissects and prepares the cadavers for the anatomy lab. Way cool, but he does come home smelling deadly! ha ha ha you get it, you get it! (Caleb used to say that)j/k.
So, This last week he cut open this male's skull with a saw and pulled out the brain. Pretty gnarly stuff but way awesome!
So... how to make a brain cake? Um... so i figured there is no way possible to make one. I even stayed up for many late nights contemplating, drawing templates, figuring out how to make a cake and frosting and cake decorating utensils work to look like a brain.
Well... no luck. So, he just had a pretty cake instead! (I'm sure kathy and becky could have come up with the trick, They can do anything).

Julie helped make the cake too! AND... Eat everything we put into the cake! Really, we found her sticking her little finger into vanilla, crisco, powdered sugar, cake mix, and oil. And to her it all tasted good! however, ReNae got after her for the crisco thing saying to julie, "Julie... that's not food, we don't eat it" But julie's reply, "dosh... I yike it"!!
Alex loves movies so much. We prolly have well over 100 DVD's. So to add to our tiney collection, he got Transformers and 10,000 BC.
A new wallet! But it for some reason didn't come with any money in it? He also got a few other gifts but probably not quite sure how many pictures will fit on here! Anyway, Thanks to Rick and ReNae for hosting the party! It was too much fun!

Man, I wish I would've known you wanted to do a brain cake! I really do have a book that shows how to make it. I think you even saw it- "Gross-out cakes" that Cosi gave me & Bruce.
And I bought a jello brain mold a few years ago & you add cream cheese or sour cream to red jello to get that healthy pinkish brain hue. Mmmm.
"I do wish you had consulted me on the matter, Marilla."
And no sayin' I told you so, either. I just happened to have it. So there.
It was a ton of fun. We love having Alexia and Kawina in PV. Happy birthday Alex and GO COUGS!!!
OK, thanks for those amazing snow photos. We'll never see it here in Sao Paulo. And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN ALEX! Yup, cake looked good nuf to eat. Hey, never complain about shoveling snow - it builds your he-man muscles.Just ask Dad!
July is so cute - especially her language skills - "Dosh" Grandma Brooks
Oops, proves you should proof-read your stuff. I meant JULIE, not July. Mom
Love the cake, Karina! Very impressive. I love those candles, too.
I also have that brain jello mold. I used it last Halloween and in fact, I DID try to make it a pinkish with...I forget...something like sour cream. Anyway, the jello and the...creamy jello slightly separated. Anyone have a suggested remedy for that?
Anyway, very cute!! Happy berfday, Alex!
See... I knew Kassy and Beky would have ideas!
Hey, When is Alex'xs Birthday? Good for you Karina for trying to figure out a brain cake. I would have used a funnel cake mix and frosted it. Maybe you don't know what funnel cakes are---they had them in Texas--way good and way not healthy.
You should let Julie eat what ever she wants when you are cooking that way she will learn to love cooking--Just a wee bit of advice from an experienced cook!! Those were super great pictures. 100 DVD's? Wow! We could play the game "do you have this video?" Like "go fish" that'd b fun. Well, keep up the fun. Good to hear from ya'lls.
