Mr. Brooks Goes to Washington

(For those of you who, like me, barely graduated from Coolidge High, and acquired only a minimal education and appreciation for the arts, the title is a play on that of a Jimmy Stewart film, "Mister Smith Goes to Washington", which is a pretty good flick...but not as good as IRONMAN, which had less dialog, and more robots, explosions, guns, bombs, and fast cars. Just sayin'.)

Good News! I was offered a 1-2 year extended duty assignment at DOE headquarters in Washington DC. This is something I've been pursuing for nearly 10 months now and we've been blessed to finally get it. Looks like we'll be moving out there in late August so I can start in Sept. It also means I will switch into our international physical security programs center, from my current center which handles domestic physical security projects (mostly for DOE, AirForce, Navy, etc). Hopefully the work will be interesting but i'm told i will be traveling heavily, which is not so good.

Kathy is excited because she has a brother (Nick) and a sister (Nancy) who live in the DC area, and we have some old friends that live there too. But mostly she is just excited because we will probably take a trip or two to New York City and she's always wanted to go (personally, I don't see what the appeal is, but she's stoked about it). Me, I'm excited because they have good fireworks on the National Mall for the 4th of July, and that's what's really important in life!

No I did not have permission to use these images, which I pulled off of google images...

Suh-weet!

I was so bummed for you last time I was talking to you & you said it was probably a no-go situation.

Here's what I allllllways say:"You can do anything if you put your mind to it, Scott, anything." (I really can't even count the number of times I've said that to him)

feel free to quote me on that.

So, I'll add that to my where I want to go list- even though it was already on there...

Becky - I saw that you had a draft post about Mother's day - why don't you just post it already?

YESSSSS- You've got your flag flying now. Go there and straighten out that congress while you're at it. And post a 10 commandments marble thingy on one of the lawns. Mom with no cute photo like scott

Wow! What a fun adventure! You're gonna love it, I'm sure. Congrats! Moving in and of itself isn't so fun, but THEY'LL probably do the work, right? Yep this all sounds exactly like something you'd like to do, Scott.
Best wishes! Jana banana
