Rocky Mountain National Park

We went camping a few weeks ago with Kathy's Sister Tina (and her family) in Colorado near Denver, in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was very crowded in the campground (100% full), but very beautiful and worth the 9-hour drive. One day we drove up and over the mountain into the inner part of the park, where the Colorado River starts. The highest elevation of that road is about 12,100 feet - amazing that you can have a road and drive your car at that elevation. We saw loads of elk, and stepped on lots of deer poops. Had some young black bears wander into our campground one night (said the ranger). It rained hard for 2 of the 4 nights we were there, but we didn't let it stop us. Jacob loves camping and playing with fire, of course. He keeps asking if we can go camping again, "but just me and Daddy, not Sammy or Mommy". Here are a few photos.

This is us at 12,000 feet. I'm king of the World.

Here's proof we saw elk.

It looks like a lot of fun! We have not even been camping one time this summer. It's totally gorgeous scenery, too. Rick shot his first elk about 4 or 5 days ago (yes, with his big bad bow!) It was just a calf, but they say that the meat on a calf is excellent - so tender I guess. Anyway, I had my ultra sound yesterday, and the doc moved the due date from the 15th to the 6th. I don't care either way, but I know when time gets close I will be way happy. Hope things are going well, hey, mom says you're going to DC? Is that true and when will this take place and where will you live and that sounds so exciting - especially because it's temporary! Seeya,

Yes, it appears that we will be living in DC for a year while I work at NNSA / DOE headquarters on a temporary assignment; but it's not for sure yet. Won't know for a few weeks if we're really going. I'll let you know. Congrats Rick on shooting something bigger than a rabbit with your Big Bad Bow. (even if it was a "baby" elk). Next time I want to see you take down an elephant with your bow.

WooHoo! First, we gettago see Barbara & David in Scotland, and now we gettago to D.C.?!?!?!? No me digas!

Plus, now you can tell George all your good ideas, Scott. (Hey that just reminds me of how Captain VonTrapp's fiance pronounced George- "Gay-org". But you aren't Austrian so I don't think you should really call him that.)

Soooo, Kathy, 4 nights camping in the mountains- I have to ask about the shower situation. You all look un-rugged for camping.

We haven't gone camping this summer, either, except for pitching the tent in the backyard before we even had sod...

This picture is way, way cute Scott. Frame it and pop it up on your wall where you can always see your little blessings! Barbara
